We role-played the process of them collaborating on an original new song.

Jim, the guitarist, brought along a few riffs.
Tomas and Bob tried jamming to their own riffs.
After recording this on a digital recorder, we all experimented with different arrangements of the riffs to create the track, which we then handed over to Veronica.

Songwriting with the track as the starting point
I finished it off by bringing the kick drum closer to the vocals and adding a new riff to the drawn-out bridge.
Whenever I tell people about this approach, they almost always furrow their brows.
